Business leaders are planning a local event for company owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Velocities, the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce’s partnership with the Mill in Bloomington and Elevate Ventures, has announced that it will host a “Start Up Saturday” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be held at Columbus Propeller, the new makerspace and innovation center located on Columbus Municipal Airport property.

“The event is free and open to anyone who owns a company, is interested in creating a new venture, or just curious about startups and entrepreneurship,” said Velocities Startup Ecosystem Manager Dan Nash. “It is designed as a day of play and hands-on learning.”

During the event, Nash and entrepreneur-in-residence Cy Megnin will lead the game “Silicon Valley Startups.” They will also have a session on how to use the Business Model Canvas to create startups, improve existing companies or excel at one’s current occupation.

According to the chamber, there is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided. The event page on Facebook states that registration is required and available at Eventbrite.

Start Up Saturday is one of the first public events to be held at Propeller, which held a preview for the community in early October. At the time, the center was still a work in progress.

Organizers said that while their best guess for an official opening date was January, they planned to hold several events and potentially some classes as well prior to the official opening.

Velocities is one of multiple entities that has provided financial support to the center.
