Gordon Perry Meek

COLUMBUS

Gordon Perry Meek, 80, of Columbus, IN, walked into the marvelous light of eternal life on November 7, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Gordon was born October 18, 1941, in Indianapolis, IN. He was the second son of Louis F. and Elizabeth (Betty) Meek. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1960. Gordon attended Southern Illinois University.

He was previously married to Linda Lay for six years. There were two children born of that marriage: Deanna (Mike) Fitzpatrick of Anaheim, CA and Doug (Shannon) Lee of Charlotte, NC. They survive as do their children Sarah Fitzpatrick, Erin Lee and Erickson Lee.

Gordon married JoAnn (Cummins) Meek on January 16, 1971. He is survived by his wife of 50 years and sons, Joe (Carla) and Matt (Christy). He is also survived by granddaughters, Haley Meek-Anderson (Scott), Katlin Meek and Ella Meek. Gordon’s two brothers, Louis F. Meek, III of Columbus, IN and Edwin Basil Meek of Colorado Springs, CO survive him as well.

Gordon lived out and demonstrated his strong faith every day. He was a member of Community Church of Columbus. He enjoyed Precept Bible studies. He was also an avid photographer, collected antique model trains, liked good ice cream and, later in life, M&M’s. Gordon could build or repair almost anything, especially cars and engines. He was gracious with his time, rarely missed his granddaughters’ soccer matches or track meets and could talk to anyone about anything. He worked at Cummins, Inc. for 39 and one-half years, with the majority of those years in fuel systems.
