Olympians, Cougars make South All-Star squad

Two Columbus East and three Trinity Lutheran volleyball players have been selected to South All-Star teams that will play the North Sunday at Lawrence North High School.

East’s Cadence Gilley was named to the 3A-4A Senior squad, and junior Gabby Dean made Junior team. Trinity’s Ruthie Bingham, Kamzi Gross and Stella Kleffman were named to the 1A-2A Senior squad.

The South All-Star teams were selected following tryouts Sunday afternoon at East High School.

The Junior All-Star game will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday. The 1A-2A game will be follow at around 2:30 p.m., with the 3A-4A game to begin around 4 p.m.

Bull Dogs, Olympians make soccer All-State

Two Columbus North and one Columbus East player have been named to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association All-State girls soccer team.

North seniors Jenna Lang and Nitya Chenanda and East junior Norah Dwenger are on the first team. North senior Emily Ellis and junior Mallory Gilley and East senior Gabi Schuetz made the second team, and North senior K.J. Ely and Lauren Barker and East juniors Alexis Spurgeon and Allison Craig are on the third team.

VanDeventer named East boys golf coach

Keith VanDeventer, the pro at Greenbelt and Par 3 Golf Courses, is taking on an additional role.

VanDeventer was announced earlier this week as the new boys golf coach at Columbus East. He replaces Levi Simpson, who coached the team last year.

VanDeventer has 24 years of experience in golf course management, coaching high school golf and as a golf professional. He was the head pro and general manager at The Fox’s Den Golf Course in Celina, Ohio, and coach at Celina High School before coming to Columbus in 2016.

VanDeventer will hold a callout meeting for all athletes interested in becoming members of the East boys golf program and their parents at 5:30 p.m. Monday in The Chamber at the school. Players should enter through the main athletic entrance, Door No. 48.

Lang, Gilley share North girls soccer MVP

Senior Jenna Lang and junior Mallory Gilley have been named co-MVPs of the Conference Indiana and sectional champion Columbus North girls soccer team.

Rion Stevens, Lauren Barker and Claire Lyvers shared the Bull Dog Award, and Stevens was named ISCA Top Team Player. K.J. Ely, Lang, Lyvers, Stevens and Layla Terry were recognized as captains.

Johnson named North boys soccer MVP

Junior Anthony Johnson has been selected MVP of the Conference Indiana champion Columbus North boys soccer team.

Will Holliday won the Bull Dog Award and was selected the ISCA Top Team Player. Oscar Ballinas won the Most Improved Player Award, and Aidan Whitley, Johnson and Nathan White were recognized as captains.

Kane selected North volleyball MVP

Senior Reagan Kane has been named MVP of the Columbus North volleyball team.

Grace Chapman won the Bull Dog Award, and Sydney Cooper won the Mental Attitude Award. Stat leader honors went to Sarah Bennett (kills), Chapman (digs) and Kane (top server). Chapman and Kane were recognized as captains.

Gretchen Babb was selected JV MVP. Serenity Mack was named JV Most Improved, Kaitlin White won the JV Mental Attitude Award and Ally Wettschurack won the Casey Cooley Award.

Allison Penrod was named Freshman MVP. Alek Tong was Freshman Most Improved, and Lucy Wilson won the Jolie Crider Award.

Clark named Hauser volleyball MVP

Senior Andie Clark has been selected MVP of the Mid-Hoosier Conference co-champion Hauser volleyball team.

Adrianna Musillami won the team’s Mental Attitude Award, and Aniston Bostic was named Most improved. Stat leader honors went to Kenze Bostic (kills), Musillami (assists), Kenze Bostic and Aniston Bostic (blocks), Andie Clark (digs) and Charlie Clark (serving percentage).

Gracie Blair was named JV MVP, while Norah Berkenstock won the Mental Attitude Award and Tanna Tatlock was named Most Improved. Stat leader honors went to Tatlock (kills), Kayden Miller (assists), Abby Blair (blocks), Gracie Blair (digs) and Katie Stoner (serving percentage).

North girls game moved to today

Columbus North’s girls basketball game at New Albany that was scheduled for Friday has been moved to tonight since New Albany is playing in the football semistate on Friday.

Game times still will be 6 p.m. for JV and 7:30 p.m. for varsity.
