A Columbus Police Department’s Intelligence-Led Policing Unit investigation has resulted in the arrest of a man accused of dealing as much as 4 pounds of methamphetamine in Columbus.

In early August, officers with the CPD unit began an investigation involving the dealing of methamphetamine in Columbus.

Investigators identified the suspect in the case as Roberto Bustos Jimenez Jr., 42, of 2251 McClure Road, a convicted felon who had been previously deported, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

As the investigation continued, officers determined that Jimenez was having large quantities of illegal narcotics shipped into Columbus from other parts of the United States, Harris said.

With the assistance of the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET), Immigrations Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Columbus SWAT Team, Jimenez was apprehended after a vehicle and foot pursuit on Columbus’ east side on Sept. 29.

On Oct. 1, CPD investigators and JNET detectives intercepted a package that was being shipped to Jimenez, Harris said.

With the assistance of the Columbus Police Department’s K9 Argo, a search warrant was obtained for the package. Inside the package, investigators located approximately 4 pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine, Harris said.

The Columbus Police Department was notified Tuesday that Jimenez was formally charged by the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office with dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony.

Jimenez was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $581,000 bond, jail officials said.

This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible, Harris said.
