If you haven’t been able to drop off trash and recyclables in Petersville the past few weekends, don’t worry. It’s not closed for good.
The facility at 11110 E. 25th St. will reopen Saturday.
The Petersville Convenience Site has been closed the past two Saturdays due to two separate electrical issues, according to Heather Siesel, Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District director.
“We use a contractor to collect trash there at the site,” Siesel said. “However, the compactors haven’t had electrical service, so that’s the reason we haven’t been open the last two weekends.”
But the Petersville facility will reopen this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for residential bagged trash and recycling – even if the electrical service has not been completely restored, Siesel said.
If there are similar problems in the future, local residents are reminded there are two other locations available that accept trash disposal and recyclables. They are:
The Harrison Township Convenience Site, 10293 W. Old Nashville Road. Open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bagged residential trash and recycling.
The Bartholomew County Landfill, 811 E. County Road 450S. Open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The backside of the landfill closes at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
In addition to bagged trash and recycling, the county landfill also accepts large and bulky items, electronics, CFC- and refrigerant-containing appliances, tires, automotive batteries, and motor oil.
Conventional recyclable materials can be dropped off at the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
These services are available to Bartholomew County residents only. In some cases, fees may apply.
