The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s “Pack-a-Patrol Car” food drive returned with a successful effort after it was canceled due to COVID last year.

Sheriff Matthew Myers said office employees went all out for residents who may need a little extra help during this holiday season.

“On November 23, thanks to residents and county employees who donated thousands of nonperishable food items,” Myers said, “BCSO staff and I delivered just under 7,000 items, totaling 4,548 pounds of food, to Love Chapel’s food pantry.”

Hope Elementary School sixth-graders collected more than 1,000 food items, and donations were collected in drive boxes in the lobbies of the sheriff’s office and the Bartholomew County Courthouse.

U.S. Rep. Greg Pence, R-Columbus, also assisted in the drive as items were collected at Walmart and Kroger in Columbus. Sheriff Lt. Kaleigh Morey chaired the food drive this year.
