COLUMBUS
Raymond E. Brown, 66, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:40 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Brown was born August 21, 1955, in Whitakers, North Carolina, the son of Robert E. and Lillie Mae Cherry Brown.
Raymond married Kathy R. Anderson June 20, 1998.
Mr. Brown retired after 40 years of service from the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class, serving his country during the Vietnam War.
He was formerly employed at Atterbury Job Corps, Agency on Aging and Menards.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and attended Dayspring Church.
Survivors include his wife; mother, Lillie Shelton; stepchildren, Benjamin Anderson and Jessica (Jerrison) Tanner both of Columbus; 5 step grandchildren; siblings, Melvin Cherry of Atlanta, Robert Brown of Columbus, Alethia Ramsey of Alabama, Shirley (Roy) Mann of Columbus, Mary (Kevin) Brown of Columbus, Robert (Helen) Day, Donald Day, Cynthia Orndorff, Jerome Shelton and Deidre (Rafael) Delgado, Sandra (Willie) Brooks, Pamela Lyons, Hiawatha Lyons, Carolyn Lyons-Curtis, Alphonsa Lyons, Denise, Vanessa, Ricky and Kim and several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; brothers, Marshall Brown, James Shelton Jr; sisters, Gregory Mann and Teresa Shelton; stepfather, James Shelton Sr. and stepson, Julian Anderson.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Community Church of The Apostolic Faith with the Bishop Charles A. Sims and Bishop David C. Bosley officiating.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the church.
Military Honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Following the service, cremation will take place.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
