East downs Franklin
FRANKLIN — Ninth-ranked Columbus East won a showdown of two of the state’s top teams Thursday night, claiming a 41-30 victory at No. 12 Franklin.
Jordan Sutton (170 pounds), Jaden Durnil (195) and Tommy Morrill (220) all won by pin for the Olympians. Reece Fisher (138) won by injury default.
Also for East, Kade Law (160) and Liam Krueger (113) won by tech fall. Noah Lykins (120) won by major decision, and Tristan Statler (182) won by decision.
Panthers pick up wins
NORTH VERNON — Jennings County’s No. 1 varsity beat Greensburg 51-24, and the Panthers’ No. 2 varsity downed Switzerland County 42-26.
Eli Simmons (113), Jonah Mathews (132), Chris Hernandez (160), Colton Ross (170), Teagan Trotter (182) and Payton Hayden (285) all won by pin for Jennings’ No. 1 varsity. Mason Sorrenson (126) and Bryce Barnes (152) won by forfeit, and Gage Gasper (220) won by decision.
For the No. 2 varsity, Tyler Moore (132), Logan Hifo (152), JoJo Hifo (160), Jon Troupe (170), Vincent Pittman (195), Trea Short (220) and Will Rowlett (285) all won by forfeit.
SWIMMING
East sweeps Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Columbus East swept a dual at Jennings County, winning the boys meet 107-62 and the girls meet 105-74.
Dathan Wolf won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 54.86 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.43), Judah Nickoll took the 50 freestyle (24.17) and 100 butterfly (59.53) and Misha Machavariani captured the 100 freestyle (52.68) and 100 backstroke (1:01.03) to lead the Olympian boys. Cavan Stilson won the 200 individual medley (2:19.01), Gavin Day took the diving competition (170.70) and East captured the 200 medley relay (1:54.71).
The Panthers’ Noah McFall won the 500 freestyle (5:18.52), and Jennings took the 200 freestyle (1:48.95) and 400 freestyle (3:42.12) relays.
Karissa Miller won the 50 freestyle (26.23) and 100 freestyle (57.79), and Gabbie Meier captured the diving (226.20) and 100 butterfly (1:12.04) to lead the Olympian girls. Ellie Proffitt won the 200 IM (2:20.54), Josie Havenaar took the 100 backstroke (1:12.52) and East captured the 200 freestyle (1:46.71) and 400 freestyle (4:09.30) relays.
Tatum Brown led the Panthers with wins in the 200 freestyle (2:09.97) and 500 freestyle (5:50.79). Reagan Brown took the 100 breaststroke (1:10.3), and Jennings captured the 200 medley relay (2:06.98).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North falls to Trojans
ST. LEON — Columbus North saw its six-game winning streak come to an end with a 47-31 loss at East Central.
The Bull Dogs (6-3) outscored the Trojans 22-20 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a 27-9 halftime deficit. Lauren Barker and Kylah Lawson each scored 11 points to lead North.
Jets top Cougars
GREENSBURG — Hauser picked up its first Mid-Hoosier Conference win of the season, a 61-39 triumph at South Decatur.
Madelyn Poe led the Jets (6-3, 1-2) with 20 points. Kyliegh Parrott scored 13, and Hannah Taylor added nine.
Kiley Best led the Cougars (1-8, 0-2) with 12 points. Kirsten Meece scored 10, and Makayla Somers added nine.
