BCSC virus cases up 64 from last week

As the fall semester nears its end, the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. is reporting a total of 870 COVID-19 positive cases since the beginning of the new school year — up 64 from last week’s count.

Officials reported that, as of noon on Dec. 10, there have been 742 student cases and 128 staff cases.

The number already exceeds last year’s total for both semesters. In May, the school corporation reported that from August to the end of the 2020-21 school year, there were 665 positive cases. This total included 431 student cases and 234 staff cases.

Of the total, 337 of those cases — 199 students and 138 staff — were reported from August to Dec. 18, 2020, which was just a few days before the first semester’s end. By Jan. 8, 2021, the count had risen to 417 (247 students, 170 staff).
