WRESTLING

North wins own invite

Columbus North beat four opponents Saturday to win its own invitational and claim its first tournament title in Matt Joyce’s four years as Bull Dogs coach.

North beat Bloomington North 51-21. Whiteland 48-30, Western Boon 51-28 and Guerin Catholic 63-18.

“They’re coming into their own,” Joyce said. “We’re young, but we’re getting some consistent performances out of those kids, and they’re having a lot of fun.”

Liam Curfman (106 pounds), Bryce Hawkins (113), Justice Thornton (126/120), Liam Phillips (152), Bryce Abner (195), all went 4-0 for the Bull Dogs. Jason Shuey (132), Jaedin Richards (138), Josiah Green (145) and Jared Slocum II (182/170) all went 3-1.

East claims Perry invite

INDIANAPOLIS — Ninth-ranked Columbus East went 5-0 to win the Perry Meridian Invitational, beating Perry Meridian B 75-6, Greenfield-Central 51-15, No. 7 Perry Meridian A 38-22, Lawrence North 72-6 and Oldham County (No. 10 in Kentucky) 51-17.

Liam Krueger (113), Reece Fisher (138), Tony Ruiz-Tapia (152), Kade Law (160), Tristan Statler (182), Jaden Durnil (195), Tommy Morrill (220) and Ashton Hartwell (285) all went 5-0 for the Olympians. Noah Lykins (120), Nate Anderson (132), Kenton Wilson (145) and Jordan Sutton (170) all went 4-1.

SWIMMING

East girls win Relays

SHELBYVILLE — The Columbus East girls set a meet record in the opening event and went on to win the seven-team Shelbyvile Invitational, outscoring runner-up Pendleton Heights 118-112.

Karissa Miller, Josie Havenaar, Ellie Proffitt and Kerigan Greathouse swam a meet-record 1 minute, 58.97 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay. The same quartet won the 400 medley relay in 4:26.57. Claire Brooks, Gabbie Meier and Proffitt took the 150 butterfly relay in 1:29.26.

“The girls were very excited and fired up walking into this meet,” East girls coach Jill Arnholt said. “The meet is a lot of fun and the girls just had a great attitude going in. They were ready to compete.”

The Olympian boys finished third behind Mt. Vernon and Yorktown. Judah Nickoll, Todd Hundley and Dathan Wolf won the 150 backstroke relay in 1:19.19. Hundley, Cavan Stilson, Nickoll and Wolf captured the 400 freestyle relay in 3:31.97.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jets topple Knights

AURORA — Madelyn Poe scored 29 points to lead Hauser to a 68-61 win at South Dearborn.

Kyliegh Parrott and Hannah Taylor each added 11 points for the Jets (7-3), who trailed 18-16 after one quarter. Hauser led 29-26 at halftime.

Panthers rally for win

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County trailed 25-22 at halftime before rallying for a 53-53 Hoosier Hills Conference win against New Albany.

Alivia Elmore led the Panthers (9-2, 3-1) with 15 points. Lily Ernstes scored 13, Megan Vogel had nine and Juliann Woodard added eight.

Lancers top Indians

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh led only 13-12 after one quarter before pulling way for a 43-34 win against Milan.

Gracie Crawhorn led the Lancers (6-4) with 13 points. Alyssa Funkhouser scored 11, and Callie Hancock added nine.

Arrows top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County fell behind 24-16 at halftime and took a 58-50 Western Indiana Conference loss to Sullivan.

Maddie Huff led the Eagles (2-9, 2-3) with 18 points. Katie Tipton scored 10, and Lexie Austin added eight.

South Decatur falls

GREENSBURG — Union County jumped out to a 15-7 lead after one quarter and went on to hand South Decatur a 40-30 defeat.

Kiley Best led the Cougars (1-8) with nine points. Paige McQueen added seven.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Crusaders down Hornets

Columbus Christian jumped out to 24-14 halftime lead and went on to post a 52-33 Southern Roads Confernece win against Medora.

Peyton Rehlander led the Crusaders (5-3, 2-1) with 13 points. Noah Edwards scored 11, and Gabe Ridder added 10.

Panthers rout Eagles

AUSTIN — Jennings County put seven players in double figures in an 89-52 win at Austin.

Owen Law and Jacob Vogel each scored 16 points to lead the Panthers (4-1). Carson McNulty netted 13 points, Lane Zohrlaur had 12 points, Carter Kent added 11 points and 10 assists and Cole Sigler and Cole Marksberry each scored 10 points.

Lancers stop Chargers

EDINBURGH — Caleb Dewey scored a career-high 36 points to lead Class A No. 5 Edinburgh to a 67-57 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against North Decatur.

Travis Jones added 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers (5-0, 2-0). Riley Palmeter also scored 10 points.
