LIllian Irene (Gabbard) Pettay

Lillian Irene (Gabbard) Pettay, age 88. a native of New Point, Indiana and a resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Lutheran Community Home. She was born on November 21, 1933 to the late William Gabbard and the late Fannie (Burris) Gabbard. Lillian will always be remembered as a feisty and spunky lady that loved life and lived it to the fullest.

She was a Christian by faith and was a member of the Ladies “Red Hats” Society. She loved bowling and was a part of a Seymour Bowling League until she was no longer able to play. She was a huge animal lover, especially dogs and cats. Lillian was a wonderful cook and the family will forever treasure her fried chicken, meat loaf and Christmas noodles.

She was the Maternal glue of the family. She loved babysitting for her grand and great grandchildren and was “Mama” to everyone.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life that she touched in her own special way.

She is survived by her three daughters, Barb Stough and her husband Ken of Seymour, Indiana, Teresa Pheral and her husband Ron of Paris Crossing, Indiana and Patty Bruveris and her husband Scott of Columbus, Indiana.

One step-son, John Pettay and two step-daughters, Ruth Southerland of Seymour, Indiana and Jennifer Pettay of Seymour, Indiana. One sister, Barbara Shumaker of Columbus, Indiana. Six grandchildren, Ronnie Smith, Terri Stough, Elizabeth Stough, Sarah Pheral, Jason Pheral and Paige Forister and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William “Keith” Pettay, one infant daughter, Cathy Allen and one son, Donald Allen.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Steve Greene officiating.

For those that are unable to attend, funeral services will be live streamed on the Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre Facebook page.

The family requests memorials be made to the Jackson County Humane Society.
