Richard A. “Dick” Hardin

COLUMBUS

Richard A. “Dick” Hardin, 80, a resident of Columbus, passed from this life at 7:15 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2021, at Brown County Health &Living Community.

Dick was born September 4, 1941, in Jennings County, Indiana, the son of the late James T. and Corellia Webster Hardin.

Dick was a 1959 graduate of Columbus High School, and he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. Dick was a U.S. Army veteran rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Dick retired from Cummins Engine Company as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in 1994 after 35 years of service.

Dick enjoyed membership in the Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398, Eagles Lodge No. 741, and American Legion Post No. 24. Dick always enjoyed a good game of golf and bingo and tear-off tickets. Dick never missed one of his kid’s sporting events, always there to encourage them however he could.

Dick will be missed by his daughter, Rhonda G. Hardin and her companion Dion Newland of Columbus; his longtime companion, Kay Bottorff of Columbus; grandchildren, Richard A. (Stacy Cooney) Hardin III of Indianapolis, Ryan A. Hardin of Columbus, Corinne N. Hardin Woerner of Columbus, and Brooklyn G. Fleming of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Tyler, and Uriah; sisters, Florence J. Hall of Columbus, Alice S. Allen of Amarillo, Texas, and Marjorie A. Wade of Columbus; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; children, Richard A. Hardin Jr. and Renee D. Hardin Mitchell; grandsons, Ralph T. Hardin and Thomas Mitchell; a great-grandson, Jacob Ralph Hardin; brothers, Russell R. Hardin, Warren M. Hardin, James L. Hardin, Guss D. Hardin, William A. Hardin, John T. Hardin, Benjamin F. Hardin, and Todd C. Hardin; and sisters, Lavana B. Jackson, Barbara F. Bowles, and Virginia F. Attwood.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Rob Hurt will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for memorial visitation from 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Private inurnment will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
