Linda Lee Lamb

NORTH VERNON

Linda Lee Lamb’s journey on this earth ended at 5:54 pm on December 14th, 2021. Linda will be greatly missed, but oh the JOY she is now experiencing in the presence of her Lord. Linda was born to Lee and Mildred Reynolds on February 25, 1946, in North Vernon, IN. She married Jerry A. Lamb on February 26, 1965. They had three daughters, Tonja, Krista, and Lisa.

Linda didn’t know a stranger. Her family often reminded her that she had the “gift of gab” much like her dad. This set her up for a life of working and serving others. She was involved in so much good throughout her life.

Early in her life, she was a class officer while in high school. That eagerness to serve followed her into her adult life. After her girls started school, she was instrumental in starting the PTO at North Vernon Elementary. All three of her girls walked with a bounce in their step through the school halls, knowing their mom was there or probably would be there at some point that day or week. They were famous at NVE because of her.

Linda was also one of the founders of the Modern Ms. Home Ec. Club. She participated in many community activities throughout the years with the club and helped start the baby pageant that continues to take place at the Jennings County 4H Fair. Linda was also part of a card club that continues to meet. This was a highlight for her girls too – card club nights meant good food was going to be made, and if they were extra good and quiet, they may get some too.

Linda was a member of the First Christian Church when she was young, and later in life, she was a member of Jennings Church of Christ. She was always involved with her church – from teaching Sunday School class, helping with VBS, to stuffing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, which she took seriously. There were times when you could not move through her living room because of all the boxes she filled with small gifts for children around the world.

Linda helped start Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, was a Brownie leader, 4H leader, caregiver to several, a taxi to many children to and from church over the years, a founder of the original Railroad Days committee, recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award, First Lady of North Vernon from 1987-1991, and on, and on. Linda loved Jennings County and her family. I guess you could say Jennings County was part of her family.

Linda worked for Hospice of Jennings County as a Volunteer Coordinator for several years. She began her journey with Hospice as a volunteer, and eventually it evolved into a full-time job. She poured her heart into that position. She even got her family involved many times, especially during February with the Hospice Gala (which she started). When it was time to call Hospice in to care for Linda, it seemed so appropriate. The tables were being turned, her family was now so grateful for this organization for caring for her during her last days.

If someone asked Linda what she was most proud of, she would certainly talk about Haiti. Throughout her life, Linda went on 35+ short-term mission trips to Haiti. She continued to go until her body would not allow it any longer. Linda loved Haiti and the people there, and she shared this love with everyone she knew. She was also able to go on mission trips with her mom, Mildred, her daughter, Lisa, and her granddaughter, Ali. She continued to receive phone calls from some of the Haitians dear to her heart. Haiti had a special place in Linda’s heart from the first trip she made to the last.

Although Linda spent a lot of time working and volunteering throughout her life, she enjoyed several hobbies. Linda enjoyed shopping and was always up for a good sale. She was the one that introduced her girls to Black Friday shopping into the wee hours of the night when they were young, something they continue to enjoy. Linda also enjoyed traveling. She loved the beach, often traveling there twice a year. Luckily, she was fearless in her travels and took her girls all over the country, making two cross-country trips in station wagons to California. Linda also enjoyed reading Chinese Checkers, watching TV, and spending time with family. After her grandchildren came along you would often find her with them at McDonald’s or the Log Cabin every Saturday morning for breakfast. She loved that time she had with them.

Linda loved traditions with her family, and for many years her family gathered at her home every Sunday for lunch. This was something she thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to each week. Linda also loved Christmas and all the traditions that went along with that holiday. She always made a big Christmas breakfast, had matching pajamas for her children, bought far too many gifts, and always started Christmas morning with reading the Christmas story from the Bible. When her girls were little, they ventured to Indianapolis every year to see the lights and ride the train at the old L.S. Ayres. Going to Derby Dinner for the Christmas Show with her girls and her mom was always on the list. Christmas will never be the same without her, but the traditions and memories she created for her family will definitely live on.

Linda leaves behind her husband, the love of her life, Jerry A. Lamb. She also leaves behind her three girls, Tonja Marsh (Philip), Krista Lane, and Lisa Hudson (Doug). Linda will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as Meme; Ali Henderson (Greer), Tucker, Sadie, and Levi Marsh; Brady, Brock, and Jenny Lane; Darby, Carter, and Ivy Hudson. Linda leaves behind her two sisters, Mildred “Marie” Perry and Marcia Olds (Jamie), her sister-in-law Carol Roberson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Mildred Reynolds, her in-laws Tony and Tiny Lamb, brothers-in-law Buck Perry and Tom “Zeke” Roberson, and sister-in-law Sharon Leach.

Although her family may seem sad from time to time and have moments of missing her tremendously, they can only imagine the JOY on Linda’s face when she crossed over from this life to her eternal resting place. God is good.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home.
