Delphia Mae Lucas

Delphia Mae (Chambers) Lucas was born in her rural Jackson County home September 01, 1935. At age 86, Delphia passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 with congestive heart failure.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Bartlett Chambers and Ruth Elizabeth (Davis) Chambers, her five older siblings, and her husband Donald Frank Lucas.

Delphia is survived by her three daughters: Debra R. Bluebaum, Donna L. (Steven) McCue, and Dee Ann (John) Bridgewater; eight grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

While growing up, Delphia was a member of Brown’s Corner Chapel where she accepted Christ as her Savior. Delphia graduated from Shields High School in Seymour, where she met the love of her life, Donald F. Lucas. They were wed on September 13, 1953. Immediately after the wedding, Donald left for the service and duty in Korea, and returned to his bride in 1955. Delphia worked as a secretary at Cummins until they started a family. Delphia was a homemaker and raised three daughters. After the children were grown, Delphia and Donald enjoyed yard work and raising flowers and the fellowship of Calvary Nazarene Church.

Thanks for prayers and support in recent months. And a special thanks to the staff of Four Seasons Retirement Center and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for the kindness shown to her in your final days.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday December 20, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial donations in Delphia’s name may be made to Calvary Nazarene Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
