COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters lowered an injured construction worker to the ground after the adult male sustained a work-related injury Thursday morning.
Firefighters were called to 5635 Poplar Woods Court at approximately 9:34 a.m. Thursday for a report of an individual who had been injured after a nail gun discharged a 3½ inch nail into a worker’s leg.
The worker was on the second floor of the home using a framing nailer when the injury occurred, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters and EMTs from Columbus Regional Health Ambulance Service assessed the patient and determined that the man was in stable condition but unable to move the injured leg, Wilson said.
The visual inspection of the injury site caused concern for first responders as it appeared that the injury was located on the back of the leg near the knee joint. Due to the type of injury and the only egress point to the ground floor was that of a construction ladder, firefighters decided to utilize the departments ladder truck, Truck 1, to remove the injured man from the second floor to an awaiting ambulance from Columbus Regional Health.
Columbus Firefighters positioned the ladder to a second floor window where additional firefighters lifted the injured man into the Truck 1 platform and successfully lowered the man to the ground. The injured man was transported to Columbus Regional Health for evaluation.
