Driver arrested on methamphetamine charges after traffic stop

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local woman on Tuesday after a traffic stop at 11:49 p.m. in the area of East County Road 800N and North County Road 100E.

After deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Pamela Schaefer, 64, 1110 Grand Ave., a Columbus Police Department K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics inside her vehicle.

Deputies located a large corner-cut bag of approximately 55 grams of suspected methamphetamine on Schaefer, which Sheriff Matt Myers described as a “big drug bust.”

Schaefer was arrested on preliminary charges of:

Dealing in methamphetamine

Possession of methamphetamine

She remains in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $325,000 bond, jail officials said.

The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team, a combined unit of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office is targeting the manufacturing and abuse of dangerous drugs in Columbus and Bartholomew County.
