North boys take 2nd

TERRE HAUTE — The Columbus North boys finished second, and the girls took fifth Saturday in the Conference Indiana meet at Terre Haute South.

Bloomington North swept the team titles, outscoring the Bull Frogs 494-442 in the boys meet and Bloomington South 439-401 in the girls meet. Columbus North’s girls scored 258 points.

Daniel Utterback led the Bull Frog boys with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 46.57 seconds) and 100 freestyle (47.82). David Fry won the 50 freestyle (22.52). Cole Wheeler finished second in the diving competition (395.45), Carlos Fabian Aguilar took second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.31) and Columbus North was second in the 200 freestyle (1:30.65) and 400 freestyle (3:17.41) relays.

The top finishes for the Bull Frog girls were a fourth and fifth from Paige Maddox (5:47.98) and Lauren Brault (5:48.02) in the 500 freestyle. Columbus North also placed fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.34).

East sweeps Red Devils

Columbus East swept a dual meet with Jeffersonville, winning the boys contest 126-48 and the girls meet 100.5-84.5.

Individual winners for the Olympian boys were Misha Machavariani in the 200 individual medley (2:06.19), Dathan Wolf in the 50 freestyle (23.22), Gavin Day in the diving (155.40), Judah Nickoll in the 100 butterfly (57.66), Keaton Stephenson in the 100 freestyle (55.33), Todd Hundley in the 100 backstroke (1:00.42) and Ethan Hall in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.73). East also swept the 200 medley (1:49.57), 200 freestyle (1:45.57) and 400 freestyle (3:31.14) relays.

The girls were led by double wins from Ellie Proffitt in the 200 freestyle (2:12.82) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.16), Karissa Miller in the 200 IM (2:27.77) and 100 butterfly (1:07.84) and Josie Havenaar in the 50 freestyle (27.76) and 100 backstroke (1:11.64). Gabbie Meier took the diving (220.95), and the Olympians captured the 200 medley (2:03.55) and 200 freestyle (1:52.13) relays.

BOYS BASKETBALL

East falls to Jeff

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville ended Columbus East’s hopes for a second consecutive victory with a 55-32 Hoosier Hills Conference win.

The Red Devils led 14-7 after one quarter and 27-18 at halftime before pulling away in the third.

Zane Moravec led the Olympians (2-11, 0-3) with 12 points. Ben Sylva added seven.

Jets snap streak

RISING SUN — Hauser ended a three-game losing streak with a 60-47 win at Rising Sun.

Bryce Bates scored 22 points, while Taeshaun Tungate had 14 and Eli Miller added 13 for the Jets (7-8). Koby Johnson grabbed nine rebounds, and Alex Cord dished out five assists.

Lions stop Crusaders

Columbus Christian led 15-8 after one quarter on Friday, but Bloomington Lighthouse rallied for a 72-57 victory.

Gabe Ridder led the Crusaders (13-10) with 25 points. Cody Kiefer added 12.

Pirates tame Cougars

GREENSBURG — Greensburg hit 10 3-pointers in handing South Decatur a 69-61 defeat.

Hunter Johnson led the Cougars (7-8) with 28 points. Jacob Scruggs scored 16, and Dale Peters added 14.

Chargers stop Eagles

ROACHDALE — North Putnam jumped out to a 34-17 halftime lead and went on to hand Brown County a 60-38 Western Indiana Conference loss.

Kaydon Bellmore led the Eagles (2-10, 0-7) with 17 points. Carter Kelly added nine.

Olympians take 3rd

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East improved its score by nearly 3 1/2 points from its previous meet, but finished third in a tri meet at Roncalli. Co-No. 6 Bloomington North won with 107.425 to 102.275 for Roncalli and 96.3 for the Olympians.

East’s Reagan Mount and Cami Warren tied for fifth in the all-around competition with a 32.4. Mount took fifth on the beam (8.6), and Warren was sixth on the floor (8.65).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Panthers top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Jennings County ran out to a 26-7 lead after one quarter and went on to post a 78-41 win at Class A No. 8 Trinity Lutheran.

Alivia Elmore scored 23 points, and Juliann Woodard had 21 to lead the Panthers (16-4). Kali Thompson added 16, and Lily Ernstes chipped in nine.

Liza Froedge and Bailey Tabeling each scored 13 points to lead the Cougars (13-7). Madison Keith added eight.

Chargers clip Eagles

ROACHDALE — Brown County led 20-11 after one quarter, but North Putnam rallied for a 65-53 WIC win.

Abigail Watson led the Eagles (3-18, 3-7) with 15 points. Lexie Austin scored 13, and Maddie Huff added 10.

Tigers topple Cougars

HAGERSTOWN — Hagerstown jumped out to a 21-9 lead after one quarter and went on to hand South Decatur a 49-33 defeat.

Makayla Somers led the Cougars (3-15) with nine points.
