MADISON
Mr. Johnnie Lee Buchanan, age 76, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on September 29, 1945 in Vevay, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late John W. and Nora Frances Cochran Buchanan. He resided his early life in Switzerland County and later moving to Jefferson County. Johnnie was inducted into the United States Army on January 30 1964 in Madison, Indiana. He rose to the rate of Specialist Four serving in the 342D Transportation Company during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on May 5, 1971 from Fort McClellan, Alabama receiving the National Defense Service Medal. On April 1, 1966 he was united in marriage to Barbara Mack in Bedford, Kentucky. This union of 55 years was blessed with daughters, Penny and Leah and a son, Johnny. He worked for Reliance Electric and for Gene B. Glick Apartments. He resided in Hope, Indiana for the past 20 years. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, gardening and fishing. Johnnie died on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at 12:10 a.m. at his daughter’s residence in Madison, Indiana. Johnnie will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Mack Buchanan of Hope, Indiana; his daughters, Leah Buchanan Reddick of Madison, Indiana, Penny Buchanan Lazaro an d her husband, Alan Lazaro of Vinal Haven, Maine; his son, Johnny Buchanan of Hope, Indiana; his grandchildren, Brittany, Bianca, Corey, Joseph, Donovan, Amanda, Blake, Bridgett and Bradley; his great grandchildren, Abigail, Camilla, Alana, Brooklyn, Elijah, Joseph, Trinity, Serenity, Brooklyn, Emily, and Aydon; his brother, William “Bill” Buchanan of Madison, Indiana; his sisters, Elizabeth Young of Madison, Indiana, Gladys Evans of Evansville, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Buchanan, his mother, Nora Frances Cochran Buchanan, his brothers, Harry Buchanan, Jr., and Charles Buchanan, and his sister, Mary Schafer. Military honors will be conducted Friday, February 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
