COLUMBUS, Ind. — Kimberly Easton, Multi Cultural Diversity Lead for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., has died.

BCSC and Easton’s family announced her death Tuesday after local officials did a welfare check at the request of the family.

Easton was found dead in her home on Monday, said Kelly Easton. The date of her death is currently unknown. Kelly Easton was notified of her oldest sister’s death on Tuesday morning.

“This was a total surprise,” she said. “I mean, she wasn’t sick, or she didn’t have anything liked COVID, or any symptoms, or anything like that.”

School officials have also been notified of Easton’s death and are notifying staff.

When asked about Easton’s impact on the community, Kelly Easton said her sister touched different groups of people.

“Especially on the kids in the high schools and the ones that she actually was able to talk to,” she said. “And I think with some of the families, also, that she’s had a very positive impact on a lot of people in the community and around the school.”

BCSC Superintendent Jim Roberts said that Easton was passionate about helping students and was “critical to their continued growth and development.”

Easton, a former journalist who joined BCSC in 2019, grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus North High School. When joining the school corporation, she said that she was “grateful for the opportunity” help students of color navigate the educational process when they’re a minority out of a school corporation population that is 68% white.

Easton was a graduate of Liberty University and earned a master’s degree from Regent University. Before joining BCSC, she worked as a reporter and anchor at a number of stations around the country, including CBS Newsradio Chicago.
