Bruce Avery Davis, 60, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 11:08 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Bruce was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, August 26, 1961, the son of Clarence and Gloria Daugherty Davis.

Bruce served our country as a United States Navy veteran rising to the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic Petty Officer First Class. He entered active duty in Louisville, Kentucky, May 14, 1980. He served during Operation Desert Storm in five sea deployments. In 1983, Bruce was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for Non-combat Heroism. He retired from the Navy and was honorably discharged in Portsmouth, Virginia, May 13, 1994.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Bruce worked in armored transportation for banks. Bruce’s grandchildren were very important to him, and Bruce always enjoyed a day of fishing.

Bruce is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Brad) Oswalt of Columbus; granddaughters, Eloise and Charlotte Oswalt of Columbus; his parents, Clarence and Gloria Davis of Chandler, Indiana; brothers, Kevin Davis of Washington, Indiana and Keith (Dana) Davis of Vincennes, Indiana; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Davis.

In keeping with Bruce’s wishes, cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
