COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Emergency Management has updated current weather predictions for today into Friday.
Emergency Management Director Shannan Cooke said the area is experiencing a brief break in rainfall for the next few hours, but heavy rain is expected this afternoon and Thursday night.
“We are currently tracking some expected lowland flooding with this event so expect a few of our typical roadways to be flooded and potentially closed. Have a different route in mind in the event a road is closed,” Cooke said. “This should be a short lived flooding event as crests are currently projected on Saturday for Driftwood, Flatrock, and East Fork White River. We will continue to see flooding for a short period following the crest of each of these rivers until the water recedes.”
The National Weather Service is predicting 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain through today with possible flooding of low-lying areas. Bartholomew County is under a marginal risk for severe weather.
Wind gusts of 30-40 mph are expected to return today.
Rapidly falling temperatures Thursday night will lead to ice formation where surfaces remain wet. A transition to wintry mix and then snow is expected to spread southeast across central Indiana from late morning to early evening. Little accumulation, trace amounts, can be expected.
A flood warning for Bartholomew County us in effect through 1:45 a.m. Friday.
