King, Johnson picked for East-West All-Star Game

Two local seniors have been selected to play in the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game.

Columbus North’s Sam King and South Decatur’s Hunter Johnson will be part of the East squad that will take on the West in the boys game at 4 p.m. April 3 at Barr-Reeve. Columbus East’s Koryn Greiwe earlier was selected to play in the girls game at 2 p.m. that day.

King leads the Bull Dogs with 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game for a team that is 15-7 going into tonight’s regular-season finale against Center Grove.

Johnson ranks first in the state and 10th in the nation with 32.7 points a game. He also leads the 12-10 Cougars with 9.2 rebounds going into Friday’s regular-season finale against Knightstown.

Local athletes picked for Workout

Columbus East’s Koryn Greiwe and Columbus North’s Kylah Lawson have been chosen to participate in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Girls Top 60 Workout March 6 at Beech Grove.

Greiwe averaged 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.5 steals in leading the Olympians to a 19-4 record and the Hoosier Hills Conference title. Lawson averaged 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in leading the Bull Dogs to a 14-9 record and the Conference Indiana title.

Crusaders to host regional, state

Columbus Christian will host the Indiana Christian Schools Athletic Association boys and girls basketball regional this weekend and the state tournament on March 5.

The girls regional begins Friday with the Crusaders hosting Christian Academy of Madison at 6 p.m.

The winner will play Martinsville Tabernacle Christian for the championship at 7 p.m. Monday.

Boys regional action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Friday with Pleasant View Christian taking on Martinsville Tabernacle. That winner will play Christian Academy of Madison at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, following the 1 p.m. semifinal between Columbus Christian and Trinity Christian. The final will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Girls state semifinals are at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. March 5, followed by boys state semifinals at 2 and 3:45 p.m. The girls state final is at 6 p.m. that day, with the boys final at 8 p.m.
