New city firefighter takes oath

The Columbus Fire Department this week hired firefighter Austin Miller as the newest member of the department. Miller recited the oath of firefighter presented by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday morning’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting at City Hall.

Miller, 22, is an Indianapolis resident and a 2017 graduate of Franklin Central High School. He is a 2020 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College with a degree in fire science. Miller is a state certified basic emergency medical technician and has completed firefighter I & II certifications. Miller’s previous emergency service experience includes working with Seals Ambulance service and the Bargersville Fire Department.

Miller will immediately begin a Columbus Fire Department orientation and training program which will conclude with a station and shift assignment.
