Camera notices stolen car, deputies make arrest

Skyler Maggard

An Indianapolis man was arrested Sunday morning after Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies were notified by an automated camera that a vehicle that was reported stolen was entering the county.

Skyler Maggard, 27, Indianapolis, was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail after deputies stopped the car at about 7:15 a.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of South U.S. 31. Drugs and drug-related paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s department.

Maggard was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. He has since been released from jail.

Sheriff Matthew A. Myers credited the Flock Camera system employed around the county earlier this year. “The Flock Camera system has, so far, been very successful in Bartholomew County,” he said. “When a vehicle is stolen, or contains stolen items, law enforcement is notified by the system and we are able to get these items off our streets.

“This was a very smart and beneficial purchase by the county,” he said.
