COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested early Thursday morning after he nearly struck a CPD officer who was checking a stranded vehicle on the side of the road.
At approximately 3:25 a.m., a CPD officer was dispatched to the area
of Central Avenue and Rockyford Road in regards to a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
While officers were checking the vehicle, they observed a black passenger car that was approaching them and did not move over to the adjacent lane. The driver of the black car, who was later identified as Ismael Sanchez Alvarez, 34, of Columbus, started to swerve nearly striking the officer and the vehicle where the officer was standing, Harris said.

Moments later when officers stopped Alvarez’s vehicle, they observed him throwing beer bottles on to the passenger side floor board. Alvarez was transported to the Columbus Police Department where he provided a breath sample of .190% Br.A.C.
Alvarez was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:
–Operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment
–Operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15% or greater
–Operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license
