A local man was arrested early Thursday morning after he nearly struck a CPD officer who was checking a stranded vehicle on the side of the road.
At approximately 3:25 a.m., a CPD officer was dispatched to the area of Central Avenue and Rockyford Road in regards to a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
While officers were checking the vehicle, they observed a black passenger car that was approaching them and did not move over to the adjacent lane. The driver of the black car, who was later identified as Ismael Sanchez Alvarez, 34, of 2021 Central Ave., started to swerve nearly striking the officer and the vehicle where the officer was standing, Harris said.
Moments later when officers stopped Alvarez’s vehicle, they observed him throwing beer bottles on to the passenger side floor board. Alvarez was transported to the Columbus Police Department where he provided a breath sample of .190%.
Alvarez was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on the following preliminary charges:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment
Operating a vehicle with a BAC of .15% or greater
Operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license
Bond for Alvares was set at $12,500 and he was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail.
