Indianapolis man accused of arson in home fire

A fire that destroyed a home in the 400 block of South National Road was ruled as arson by investigators.

An Indianapolis man was arrested following an investigation into a fire later ruled as arson at a home in the 400 block of South National Road.

Antonio L. Dickerson, 39, 3504 Blue Spruce Lane, Indianapolis, has been arrested and accused of an arson at the home at 6:37 p.m. Feb. 22, sheriff deputies said.

In addition to a preliminary charge of arson, Dickerson is also accused of three counts of Level 6 felony intimidation, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff Department.

On Feb. 22, Sgt. Andrew Whipker and Deputy Nate Nichols, as well as several firefighters from Columbus Township,Elizabethtown, Wayne Township and Clay Township were sent to the fire, and found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Bartholomew County Fire Inspector, Gene Wever, conducted an investigation and determined Dickerson was allegedly responsible for setting the fire, according to the sheriff department.

Detective Dane Duke was assigned to the arson investigation and alleged threats to the victim, deputies said. As a result, a warrant was issued on March 11 for Dickerson’s arrest.

Dickerson was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail where he remains in lieu of $1 million bond, jail officials said.
