Mildred Virginia ‘Ginny’ Bower

SHELBYVILLE

Mildred Virginia “Ginny” Bower passed away at the age of 97 on Saturday, March 12, 2022 after a short stay at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope, Indiana.

Virginia was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Arthur W. and Mildred Moler Smith. On November 13, 1943, she married Lewis E. Bower, who precedes her in death.

Prior to her move to Magnolia Springs of Bridgewater in Carmel, Indiana, Mrs. Bower resided in Shelbyville, Indiana for fifty years. While there, she was not only a homemaker and pie-baker extraordinaire but she also worked for Cossairts Florists. After her retirement, Virginia volunteered at the Major Hospital Gift Shop and for Hospice of Shelby County. Mrs. Bower’s faith was important to her, as she was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Whitaker of Noblesville, Ruth Ann (Michael) Kistler of Columbus; grandchildren, Ryan Michael (Lori) Kistler, Kathryn Anne Kistler, both of Columbus and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis and two brothers.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Paul Dazet officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at South Park Cemetery.
