The Bartholomew County Substance Abuse Council will offer a presentation from Jermaine Galloway, “The Tall Cop” to educate the community about drug abuse trends, particularly about vaping and the use of marijuana with vape devices.
The event is free but registration is requested through Eventbrite. It will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 23 at The Commons.
Galloway’s presentation is targeted to local law enforcement and first responders, but organizers also hope to educate parents, teachers and the community about drug trends affecting the youth of the community.
Galloway will talk about popular dug items among youth, how COVID-19 has changed some illegal drugs, trends in vape and the use of marijuana concentrates and products found in recent community scans.
The training will enable those who attend to identify alcohol and drug abuse indicators through products, stash compartments, clothing brands and other clues, and how to identify concealment methods for alcohol and drugs. This will include in classrooms, in the workplace and elsewhere.
Galloway’s trademarked motto is, “You can’t stop what you don’t know.”
An Idaho law enforcement officer since 1997, Galloway is among the top experts in the U.S. on drug and alcohol trends and has specialized in law enforcement response to underage drinking and drugs for more than 15 years, according to his website.
Since 2009, he has won four national awards and one international award for his work. In addition to his numerous talks at conferences and other events, he has personally trained more than 105,000 people nationwide.
When people wonder where the reference to “Tall Cop” comes from, he replies, “Well, I’m a tall cop.” Galloway’s website said he is 6 feet 9 inches tall.
On average, Galloway gives 200 presentations a year all over the country.
