One fatality reported in Hope fire on Schaeffer Drive

HOPE — Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting has identified the individual who died in the Hope fire as Thomas Clark, 61, who lived at the Schaeffer Drive address.

Nolting said an investigation is ongoing and a full forensic autopsy is pending for Clark.

HOPE – Bartholomew County sheriff deputies and Hope firefighters said one person is dead following a fire in a home in the 100 block of Schaeffer Drive in Hope. Multiple volunteer fire departments are on the scene.

The fire was reported at about 10:40 a.m., dispatched as a man trapped in a home that was on fire, according to investigators. When Hope police and sheriff deputies arrived at the scene, they reported difficulty accessing the home through the door or a window.

Investigators said the family of the victim has been notified and was at the scene this morning.
