This week, we raise a baton in a salute toward the local music ensembles:
— The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic joins the Philharmonic Chorus and vocal soloists including Columbus natives and Philharmonic audience favorites mezzo-soprano Jane Dutton and soprano Rachel Holland for “Joy! Beethoven’s Ninth” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Columbus East High School auditorium. Dianne Sprunger is the accompanist. This concert also marks artistic director David Bowden’s second-to-last ticketed concert for this, his final season. Masks are still required for the venue. The concert is dedicated to former chorus member and longtime philharmonic supporter Helen Haddad. Information and tickets: thecip.org.
—The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will present a virtual concert of chamber works at 3:30 p.m. Sunday via its Facebook page of Columbus Symphony Orchestra of Indiana and also its YouTube channel. Music director Josh Aerie (pictured) will offer an introduction at the beginning. The concert will feature local musicians including Tiffany Fu, violin; Sam Song, violin; Stephanie Zhang, flute; Lynn Billeter-Ellegood, flute; Jerica Henrichsen, clarinet; and The Henrichsen Family strings ensemble. This program features high school aged students in addition to regular members of the CSO.
— Here’s an early note that the Columbus City Band will present its concert at 2 p.m. April 2 at The Commons, 300 Washington St., in downtown Columbus. Steve McGrew directs the City Band.
