HOPE — Hauser is without boys and girls basketball head coaches after Brent Keck was fired as boys coach and Chad Evans resigned as girls coach.

Keck posted a 19-29 record in two seasons with the Jets. They went 11-14 this season, winning a pair of sectional games before falling to eventual regional champion Jac-Cen-Del in the Southwestern (Shelby) Sectional final.

“We just decided to go in a different direction,” Hauser athletics director Tyler Phillips said.

Keck was the first of the past four Hauser boys coaches to last longer than one year in the position. After Bob Nobbe retired following the 2016-17 season, Griff Roth, Nate Cangany and Joe Sibbitt all spent one year at the helm before Keck took over in May of 2020.

“It was a privilege and honor to have the opportunity to coach the kids of Hauser High School,” Keck said. “Would like to thank my assistant coaches for their loyalty and support in coach (Trent) Moorhead and coach (Dwayne) Williams.”

Keck lives on the south side of Indianapolis and teaches at Southport. The Anderson native who played college basketball at UNC-Asheville has been a head coach for 24 years in Indiana, and Hauser was his seventh — and possibly his last — coaching stop.

“I think that this was my last rodeo… had hoped to finish my career here,” Keck said.

Meanwhile, Evans resigned last week after three years coaching the Hauser girls basketball team. He went 25-45 in his first stint as a high school head coach after being an assistant at Greensburg and Southwestern (Shelby).

Like Keck, Evans was coming off his best season as Jets coach. Hauser went 10-13 this winter, falling to Jac-Cen-Del in the first round of the Waldron Sectional.

“I appreciated the opportunity to coach at Hauser the last three years and will miss the relationships with the players and wish Hauser the best,” Evans said.

Phillips said both coaching matters would go to the Flatrock-Hawcreek School Board for approval at Tuesday’s meeting. After that, he said, the school will begin its search for new boys and girls head coaches.

The moves come as Hauser is expected to make the jump from Class A to 2A next season based on enrollment figures that were released by the IHSAA last month.
