Cougars blank Olympians

BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington North won all five matches in straight sets Wednesday in handing Columbus East a 5-0 defeat.

Katie Hong fell to Alex Shirley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Catherine Millwood lost to Brooke Bailey 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Katey Rieckers fell to Lucy Smith 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (0-2).

East’s Ruth Federle and Shruithika Kumar lost to Ellie Bruce and Kiera Murphy 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Betsy Hoene and Caroline Emerick fell to Siggy Force and Bella Winkler 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Rebels top Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County got a win at No. 1 singles, but Southwestern (Hanover) took the other four matches to claim a 4-1 win.

Reagan Brown defeated Elle Ford 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (1-1).

Jennings’ Tatum Brown fell to Julia Worcester 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Lucy Brown lost to Syrenia Hardy 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Maria Ecker Alberti and Amy Vogel fell to Chloe Adcock and Audrey Bare 6-4, 7-6 (3) at No. 1 doubles, and Caitlyn Schuck and Lily Schildknecht lost to Peyton Howell and Larissa Garcia 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers down Pirates

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County scored seven times in the first two innings and rolled to a 10-1 win against Charlestown.

Carson McNulty went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Jacob Vogel went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Lane Zohrlaut went 2 for 4 and Logan McIntosh went 2 for 4 for the Panthers (10-1). Cole Sigler picked up the win on the mound.

SOFTBALL

Devils edge Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County took the lead with a pair of run in the top of the seventh, but Jeffersonville rallied with three in the bottom of the inning to pull out a 4-3 Hoosier Hills Conference win.

Pitcher Kenzie Matern went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple for the Panthers (0-5, 0-1).
