Jets top Lancers for first win

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh led 4-3 after four innings, but Hauser scored once in the fifth to tie it and nine times in the sixth to claim a 13-4, six-inning Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Koby Johnson threw a three-hitter and struck out 10 for the Jets (1-1, 1-0). Simeon Wasil went 3 for 4; Sam Miller went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs; Eli Miller went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs and Caleb Walker went 2 for 4.

Riley Palmeter went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Jets (0-3, 0-1).

North-BN game suspended

Columbus North and Bloomington North were tied 1-1 after seven innings when the game was suspended because of darkness.

The Cougars scored their run in the top of the first, and the Bull Dogs (2-0, 0-0) tied it in the sixth. Since it is a Conference Indiana game, it will have to be completed at a later date.

Columbus Christian wins

Jordan Burton and Gabe Ridder combined on a three-hitter to lead Columbus Christian to an 11-5 win against Rock Creek Academy.

Peyton Rehlander went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Crusaders (2-1). Canon Carr had two RBIs.

Cougars down Spartans

SHELBYVILLE — Dale Peters and Evan Wullenweber combined on a three-hitter to lead South Decatur to a 4-2 MHC win at Southwestern (Shelby).

Jaydun Sharp had a double for the Cougars (3-1, 1-0).

SOFTBALL

Jets stop Lancers

EDINBURGH — Hauser broke open a close game by scoring 11 runs in the third and went on to post a 15-5, five-inning MHC win at Edinburgh.

Bayleigh Rutherford and Lucie Asher each had two hits for the Jets (2-2, 1-0). Izzy Bruner had four RBIs, and winning pitcher Paige McDaniel and Asher each had three RBIs.

Kyah Streeval had three hits for the Lancers (0-4, 0-1).

East falls to Floyd

Columbus East opened its Hoosier Hills Conference schedule with a 12-3 loss to Floyd Central.

Kenzie Foster went 2 for 3 with a triple for the Olympians (1-4, 0-1). Kaylee Cole added a double.

BOYS GOLF

Eagles top Jets

NASHVILLE — Cooper VanNess won medalist honors with a 42 to lead Brown County to a 208-219 win against Hauser at Salt Creek.

Caleb Wallace led the Jets with a 51. Chase Martoccia carded a 52; Ben Johnson added a 56; Jessie Bragg, Bryce Kunze and Marshall Moody all shot 60, Zach Weichman had a 62 and Brenden Burton finished with a 64.

TRACK AND FIELD

Cougars sweep tri meet

MORRISTOWN — South Decatur swept a tri meet at Morristown. The Cougar boys scored 61 points to 51 for Hauser and 43 for Morristown, while the South Decatur girls scored 95 points to 81 for Morristown and 20 for Hauser.

Ian Frensemeier led the Cougar boys with wins in the shot put (37 feet) and discus (104-4 1/2). Kelby Shook took the high jump (5-6), and South Decatur captured the 4×100-meter relay (47.2 seconds).

Hauser’s Aleck Lopez won the long jump (19-10 1/2) and 400 (53.0), and Colin Kistler took the 1,600 (5:11) and 3,200 (11:47). Cephus Zulu captured the 100 hurdles (17.5), and Cameron Toole won the 200 (25.5).

Brayley Sundal led the Cougar girls with wins in the 100 (13.7) and 200 (30.8). Alli Nobbe took the 300 hurdles (54.5).

The Jets’ Callie Swegman won the 3,200 (14:42).

GIRLS TENNIS

Panthers edge Shawe

MADISON — Jennings County swept the singles positions to pull out a 3-2 win against Shawe Memorial.

Reagan Brown beat Kelly McClure 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Tatum Brown blanked Autumn Lathrem 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Lucy Brown topped Megan Morrison 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (2-1).

Jennings’ Maria Ecker Alberti and Amy Vogel fell to Lina Leatherman and Jessica Lopez 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Caitlyn Schuck and Makenzey Carr lost to Carson Cooke and Mariana Perez Reyes 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
