Eagles top Olympians

NASHVILLE — Brown County won three matches in straight sets Friday to claim a 3-1 victory against Columbus East.

Anna Stogsdill blanked Katie Hong 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Eagles (1-1). Brown County’s Katie Tipton and Abie Bowman beat Katey Rieckers and Ruth Federle 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Mary Rygiel and Julia Burt topped Allie Gribbons and Betsy Hoene 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

For the Olympians (0-3), Cathrine Millwood beat Anna Tipton 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

East’s Shruthika Kumar and Brown County’s Mattie Satter split the first two sets at No. 3 singles before their match was called in the third-set supertiebreaker because of rain.

GREENSBURG — South Decatur trailed 5-1 after five innings before scoring eight runs in the sixth to rally for a 9-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Southwestern (Shelby)

Devin Pate threw a four-hitter for the Cougars (4-1, 2-0). Cameron Henderson went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
