Sam Miller // Hauser senior baseball player

Miller went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs in a 13-4 win at Edinburgh, 1 for 3 with an RBI in Friday’s 7-2 win against Edinburgh and 2 for 4 with four RBIs in Saturday’s 17-2 win at Trinity Lutheran.

His performance last week: “I’m keeping one thing in mind this year, which is to take nothing for granted. It’s my senior year, and I want to enjoy it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually before games, I’ll go to Chick-Fil-A and have some chicken strips. That always helps.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “I like steak.”

Favorite class: “My C4 class, which is Criminal Justice.”

Favorite sports team: “I like watching the Reds.”

Favorite athlete: “I’ve always watched liked watching Joey Votto. He’s always been pretty cool.”

Role model: “My brother (former Hauser and current Millikin baseball player Sean Miller)”

Best advice: “Don’t take anything for granted, and don’t do it for yourself; do it for the team. It’s less about yourself and more about the other people around you.”

Athletics goal: “To come out and set a good example for the young guys this year and nurture them so that they’re still a good team next year. I want to help out the people around me the best I can.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Victory Field. I’ve watched people play on it my whole life, and I’ve always wanted to be one of those players.”

FEMALE

Emma Gray // Columbus East junior track athlete

Gray won all four of her events to lead the Olympians to a 72-60 victory at Seymour. She captured the long jump, 100-meter hurdles, 100 meters and 300 hurdles.

Her performance last week: “I felt pretty happy with myself. I’m just hoping to get better than what I have been.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Not really. I just kind of go with the flow for the meet.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Anything pasta”

Favorite class: “Physics”

Favorite sports team: “Purdue or Indiana University”

Role model: “My mom (Debbie Gray)”

Best advice: “Probably just to be myself and not worry what other people think.”

Athletics goal: “I definitely want to get to college on an athletic scholarship.”

If you could travel anywhere: “The Maldives. I want to go swimming in the bio-luminescent water there. It lights up whenever you swim in it.”
