John Peterson

John Byron Peterson, 83, of Columbus passed away on April 13, 2022. John was born on March 27, 1939 in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin to Ruth and Byron Peterson, both deceased.

He married Carolyn Silvers December 18, 1976 in Seymour, She survives.

Survivors include a sister, Marlene Krueger of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin; son, Rick Peterson (Jeanine) of Columbus; Daughter, Erica Ingram (Emerson) of West Palm Beach, FL; Granddaughter, Dairell Belcher of West Palm Beach; Grandson, Jonathan Peterson (Stevie) of Hartford, KY; and great-granddaughter, BlakeLee Kate of Hartford, KY.

Other survivors include Nieces, Terry Davis, Wendy Fullmer and Bobbie Krueger and their families.

He was receded in death by an infant sister, Deborah Ann.

John served in the United States Air Force from 1957-1961 as an air traffic controller in England at RAF Wattisham, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall Bases.

Following his military service John returned to Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Cummins Engine Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1996. Following his retirement from Cummins he worked with his wife in their photography business for many years.

John was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Columbus.

He was a former president of Hoosier Woodcarvers Club, a Volunteer at Atterbury Bakalar Air Museum, Housing Partnerships, and a member of the Bartholomew County Honor Guard.

At John’s request cremation is planned. A private memorial service will be held at Garland Brook mausoleum chapel. pastor Mark Teike will officiate. Military tribute will be performed by the Bartholomew County Honor Guard.
