Allie Mae Cherry

COLUMBUS

Allie Mae Cherry, 100, of Columbus, passed away at home on Monday, April 18, 2022. She was born February 6, 1922 in Moss, TN, to Terry J. and Emily F. (Moore) Odle.

Mrs. Cherry was a member of the 25th Street Church of Christ. She was a former employee of Roviar Sportswear and retired from Columbus Regional Hospital, where she worked as a dietary aide. She was also a foster grandparent at Children, Inc.

Allie enjoyed flower gardening, quilting and cooking for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert Cherry; daughter, Margie Hammack; sons, Clyde and Eugene Cherry; and siblings, Anna Compton, Mabel Fox and Fred Odle.

Survivors include her loving children, Shirley (David) Watkins of North Vernon, Evelyn (Larry) West of Columbus, Dale (Marty) Wachtstetter of Columbus, Janet Miller of Columbus, and Penny (Jim) McCleery of Hope; her grandchildren, Lisa Hammack and companion, Brian Abner, Brian (Stacey) Hammack, April Watkins, and companion, Ed Maiden, Melissa (Tim) Maiden, Terry Williams, Audrey (Jim) Franks, Tonya Watkins, Gina West, Dusty (Dave) West-Mills, Amy West-Baylor, Tessa Paul, and companion Doug Rather, Shawn Miller, Heather (Paul) Wisdom, and Summer (Jared) Crank. Also surviving are numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Myers-Reed Chapel with Brace Rutledge presiding. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 12 Noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Allie’s name are suggested to either the 25th Street Church of Christ or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
