An Elizabethtown student who is studying agribusiness and political science at Purdue University will serve as a congressional summer intern and receive a scholarship from the Mid America CropLife Association.

Abby Meier of Elizabethtown is one of 12 college students who were chosen to participate in the 10th year of MACA’s Young Leader Scholarship Program.

Meier’s internship will be with Rep. Jim Baird’s Office in Washington, D.C., at the United States Capitol Building. After completing their summer internships, the scholarship recipients also receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their tuition expenses.

Meier is double-majoring in agribusiness with a concentration in agriculture marketing and political Science with a concentration in Public Policy. She hopes to graduate in May 2024.

The scholarship program is designed to expose future agriculturalists to the crop protection industry and potential career opportunities. Recipients receive financial compensation, additional training for finding a job, plus the opportunity to network with MACA members. MACA members benefit by developing a talent pool of future industry leaders and through the heightened awareness of MACA within participating land-grant universities.

Meier and other recipients will attend the MACA Annual Meeting September 6-8 2022 and speak about their internship experience and participate in the meeting with MACA members.
