Letter: Laura DeDomenic will make assessor’s office more efficient

From: Pia O’Connor, Bartholomew County auditor

Columbus

I believe Laura DeDomenic should be elected as the next Bartholomew County assessor. Laura has spent the last 24 years in the real estate industry in Bartholomew County. She has owned a mortgage company, is a real estate broker and owns commercial real estate. Laura served on County Council for six years until she stepped down because she moved out of her district.

She will lead the Assessor’s Office with the same integrity, respect and transparency as she did on County Council. She will conduct assessments in a fair and equitable manner per Indiana statute. She will increase resolutions of appeals through informal meetings with taxpayers. This will reduce costly appeals and appraisals necessary for the Property Tax Board of Appeals and the Indiana State Tax Court. In turn, these changes will reduce the costs of the office and the dependence on third-party consultants.

Unlike her opponent, Laura will not convince county council that an $80,000 duplicative system is needed. Laura will not ask for a $20,000 raise for herself as her opponent has done. Believe me, we need Laura DeDomenic as our assessor. Join me in voting for Laura DeDomenic on or before May 3.
