North wins tri match

SHELBYVILLE — Luke Schneider fired a 3-under-par 33 to lead Columbus North to a quad match win at Hawks Tail. The Bull Dogs scored a 149 team total to 185 for New Palestine White, 186 for host Shelbyville and 203 for New Palestine Red.

Tyler Wilks carded a 37 for North. Willy Davis added a 39, Jack Schiavello had a 40 and John Ferguson and Damon Gregory each shot 41.

Lancers take third

FRANKLIN — Edinburgh finished third in a tri match at The Legends. Host Whiteland won with a 158 to 169 for Plainfield and 188 for the Lancers.

Max Blandford led Edinburgh with a 40. Trevor Moon carded a 48, Mason Calhoun added a 49, Cash Cunningham shot 51 and Devyn Milburn had a 65.

BASEBALL

JC tops East in semi

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County advanced to the championship game of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament with a 12-9 semifinal win against Columbus East on Wednesday.

The Olympians (8-12-1) led 7-6 after five innings, but the Panthers (16-7) scored six times in the fifth. Keegan Manowitz picked up the win in relief of Jacob Vogel.

Austin Byford went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Vogel went 3 for 4 and Logan McIntosh went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for Jennings. Lane Zohrlaut went 2 for 3, and Sam Burkman went 2 for 4.

Chase Zapfe had a home run and three RBIs for East. Ethan Ianni and Ty Uphaus each had a home run and two RBIs.

GIRLS TENNIS

Red Devils top East

Jeffersonville won four matches in straight sets in handing Columbus East a 4-1 defeat in the consolation round of the HHC Tournament.

Katey Rieckers and Cathrine Millwood beat Alexis Evans and Abby Leep 5-7, 6-2, (10-7) at No. 1 doubles for the Olympians (1-13).

East’s Katie Hong fell to Eva Ellis, at No. 1 singles, and Shruthika Kumar lost to Addie Rose at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Ruth Federle fell to Kirsten Elder 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Ashlynn Weddle and Betsy Hoene lost to Sydney Adams and Hayley Adams 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

SOFTBALL

East falls to Red Devils

Columbus East jumped on top with a run in the first, but Jeffersonville took control for a 12-2 HHC decision.

Kenzie Foster and Addy Ross each went 2 for 3 for the Olympians (6-14-1, 1-5).

Floyd upends Panthers

FLOYDS KNOBS — Jennings County led 4-2 after three innings, but Floyd Central scored five runs in the fourth and eight in the fifth to rally for a 15-4, five-inning HHC victory.

Abby McDonald went 2 for 3 for the Panthers (9-14, 0-6). Kenzie Matern had two RBIs.

TRACK AND FIELD

East girls 3rd in HHC

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East finished third in Tuesday’s HHC girls meet. New Albany won with 152 1/3 points to 148 1/3 for Floyd Central and 59 for the Olympians.

Megan Tracy finished second in the shot put (33 feet, 8 1/2 inches) and third in the discus (107.4) to lead the Olympians. Emma Gray took fourth in the 100 meters (13.18 seconds) and 300 hurdles (50.77), Chloe Krueger was fourth in the 1,600 (5:45.51) and East finished third in the 4×100 relay (53.34) and fourth in the 4×800 (11:21.62) and 4×400 (4:25.12) relays.

Sasha Hicks led the Panthers with a second-place finish in the high jump (4-10). Cheyeanna Leslie took third in the shot (33-3).

BOYS LACROSSE

Perry stops Columbus

Despite four goals and an assist from Owen Barkes, Columbus fell to Perry Meridian 10-6 on Tuesday.

Nathan Wettschurack and Curran O’Conner each scored a goal for Columbus. Brayson Bennett recorded 15 saves.
