Columbus police arrested a suspect on numerous charges including attempted murder after receiving a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Jackson Street in downtown Columbus last week.
On May 13th at approximately 1:40 a.m., CPD officers received a report of shots fired at the location, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. Officers located one person who sustained minor injuries from the incident.
A short time later, officers located a vehicle that they believed was involved in the shooting incident. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver of the vehicle, Gaige K. Berger, 18, of 3251 Countrybrook Court, Columbus, refused to pull over, Harris said. During the short pursuit, two handguns were thrown from the vehicle and recovered by officers.
Berger stopped his vehicle near Third Street and Lindsey Street where he was taken into custody after a traffic stop was conducted, Harris said.
Berger was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on several preliminary charges.
On Wednesday, the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office filed the following formal charges against Berger:Attempted Murder
Two counts of criminal recklessness
Resisting law enforcement
Possession of marijuana
Possession of a handgun without a license
Possession of a controlled substance
Berger remains incarcerated at the Bartholomew County Jail without bond, jail officials said.
