In the wake of another school shooting, while our hearts are grieving for the victims and their families, we are hearing the pundits and politicians declare we need gun control. In all the news coverage I have not heard one person mention the true roots of the violence we are seeing in the United States today. The reality is what we are witnessing is sin and the cause is turning our hearts away from God. The remedy is not gun control but revival.
As a country we have taken God out of our schools, our government, and our individual lives. There is no law that can regulate a human’s heart. A heart filled with hate, pain and malice will lash out and harm others whether with a gun or other means at their disposal. A heart that has succumbed to evil only has one hope, and that is God.
The remedy starts with going to church, where one becomes acquainted with the Bible. In the Bible you will learn the Ten Commandments and that we are to love one another as we love ourselves. You will learn that we are to forgive one another 70 times seven. You will learn of Jesus’ sacrificial act on the cross, and you will come to know Jesus as your Savior and be filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit acting in you will help you to see that each person is a child of God and needs love and compassion. The Holy Spirit will help you to self-regulate your behavior in a way that a law never could. Government and their laws will not fix what ails the United States, but revival will.
Grandmas, grandpas, moms and dads, rouse those children out of bed and get them to church this Sunday. It’s an investment of time that you will never regret.
