SHELBYVILLE — Shelby County Sheriff deputies are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at 3:45 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Old State road 252 and State Road 9 in Shelby County.
Deputies said Robert J. Gladfelter, 64, Orlando, Florida, was killed in the two-vehicle collision. He was a passenger in a car driven by Michael Gladfelter, 68, Knightstown, deputies said.
According to investigators, the Gladfelter vehicle collided with a 2008 Town and Country minivan driven by Tacaria Brotherton, 38, Union City.
Tacaria was injured and taken to Major Hospital by Shelbyville medics.
Michael Gladfelter was injured and flown by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital.
Evidence at the scene indicates that the Buick driven by Gladfelter failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by the southbound (on State Road 9) minivan driven by Brotherton.
Flatrock firefighters and Shelbyville medics also responded.
