Newell finished second in the 800 meters and anchored the winning 4×800 relay team and fourth-place 4×400 relay team to help lead the Bull Dogs to a runner-up team finish in the Greenfield-Central Regional.
His performance last week: “I think it was acceptable, but I’m not totally satisfied.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always try to relax and relieve myself of stress and obviously eat healthy and get good rest.”
Favorite drink: “Water”
Favorite food: “Anything to do with chicken. It’s my main source of protein.”
Favorite class: “Calculus or statistics just because they’re the most challenging and the most fun classes are the challenging ones.”
Favorite sports team: “Houston Rockets or Baltimore Ravens”
Favorite athlete: “Yao Ming”
Role model: “My parents (Dan and Christina Newell)”
Best advice: “Always do your best and forget the rest because if you give it your full effort, even if you fall short, there’s nothing else you could have done, so it’s not worth worrying about.”
Athletics goal: “To win the state championship in the 800 meters at state this weekend.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, because I’ve never been to Europe, and it’s a place I’d like to visit.”

Brianna Newell
Newell won the 1,600 meters, led off the school- and regional-record-setting 4×800 relay team and also ran on the fifth-place 4×400 relay team to help lead the Bull Dogs to a runner-up team finish in the Franklin Regional.
Her performance last week: “I’m happy with my performance, but I’m hoping I can cut down my 4×800 split and to really smash my (personal record) in the 1,600 at state.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I try to get enough sleep, and I usually eat the same things every time before each race.”
Favorite drink: “Water.”
Favorite food: “Anything my mom makes.”
Favorite class: “Pre-Calculus”
Favorite sports team: “US Olympic Team”
Favorite athlete: “Sydney McLaughlin”
Role model: “My parents (Dan and Christina Newell)”
Best advice: “Life life with joy and don’t get caught up in the little things.”
Athletics goal: “In the 1,600, I eventually want to go sub 5:00.”
