COLUMBUS
Garrel L. Lowman, 79, of Columbus, went to his heavenly home at 1:12 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Garrel was born January 10, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Frank W. and Opal M. Burton Lowman. On July 31, 1965, he married Peggy Rutan.
Mr. Lowman worked 30 years as a machine operator at Cummins Engine Company and 23 years at Walmart. He is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed camping, fishing, baseball and anything outdoors. Family get togethers were always an event that he looked forward to attending.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Peggy; daughter, Tammy Reel of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Alonza (David) Brown, Melody Petro, Justin (Julia) Petro, all of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Callee (Bryce) Fredricksen, Raven Rathburn, Aiden DeHaven, Makaela West, Wade Petro, Jenna Petro; great-great-grandchildren, Xavier Fredricksen, Leona Lashley, Lula Fredricksen; brother, Rufus Lowman of Elizabethtown; sister, Joann Rich of Columbus; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Cutsinger and nephew, Eric Lowman.
Visitation only will be held on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place after the visitation. There will be no formal funeral service.
Inurnment will be at Christiansburg Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
