Petersville United Methodist Church leaders have canceled its in-person Sunday worship service for the second time in three weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also canceled its May 22 service when four people were dealing with COVID-19, according to worship leader Kathy Bush.
The church has also postponed a planned Saturday Vacation Bible School day camp.
Bush mentioned that a group of nine leaders got together for a planning meeting Saturday morning. Since then, two of those nine people have tested positive. She added that the cancellation is a safety measure. A third person in the congregation also is just recovering from the coronavirus.
The church averages about 40 people attending in person per Sunday, Bush said.
“Almost everyone in the congregation has been vaccinated,” Bush said.
Pastor Rebecca Milne will present an abbreviated service of sorts online, without music but with a sermon message, on the church’s Facebook page. Bush said leaders will discuss next week whether they can resume in-person services June 12.
First United Methodist Church in Columbus canceled its May 15 service because a number of its leaders tested positive at the time for the virus.
