COLUMBUS, Ind. — An Elizabethtown man died in a three-vehicle collision at about 3 p.m. Monday on State Road 7 near County Road 450E.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies said a pickup truck was traveling south on State Road 7 and attempted to pass a sports utility vehicle when it collided head-on with a northbound semi tractor-trailer.

The Bartholomew County Coroner’s office identified the pickup driver who died as Randall Fields, 72, Elizabethtown. His cause of death was listed as massive multiple trauma, according to the coroner’s office.

The driver of the SUV, believed to also be from Elizabethtown, consented to a voluntary blood draw at Columbus Regional Hospital, as did the semi driver, who was transported to the hospital by CRH ambulance, deputies said. They were not injured, according to investigators

Toxicology tests have also be ordered for Fields, the coroner’s office said.
