Services and studies

Asbury United Methodist Church — Asbury offers a traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m. Nursery is available for both services. J.A.M. (children’s church) is offered at both services. The church also offers Sunday school classes at 10 a.m.

Asbury offers a variety of classes and group studies at various times during the week. Check out our website at www.asburycolumbus.org for more information.

The church will be taking a break from Asbury Kids, youth and adult class on Wednesday evening June 22. Classes will resume on June 29 and go through July.

Vacation Bible School Sunday will be June 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Columbus Baptist Church — The church offers worship services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. A teen service is offered at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school for all ages meets at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study, Kids Club, and teens meet at 6:30 p.m. There are various small group events weekly.

Community Church of Columbus — Community Church of Columbus meets for Sunday service at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The second service is livestreamed and available on the Community Church’s Columbus Indiana Facebook page and Community Church of Columbus YouTube channel.

East Columbus Christian Church — East Columbus Christian Church is open for in-person worship on Sunday mornings with a blended worship service at 10 a.m. The church also has online worship available through Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday morning Bible study is at 9 a.m. Youth meet at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and children’s ministry meets through Zoom on Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

East Columbus United Methodist Church — Pastor Ann Thomas will bring the message at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. The blended worship service includes praise music, traditional hymns and children’s moment, a time when the children receive a special message. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month. The morning service is available online Sunday afternoon through the church’s Facebook and YouTube pages for those not yet comfortable meeting in person. Face coverings are optional at services.

Sunday school is held immediately after the morning service and classes are available for all ages and Bible interests.

The Sunday evening chapel service is held twice per month. Check the church website for dates and times.

“Grace’s Table” Free Hot Meal is served the second Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. in the youth center. Tuesday afternoon Bible study meets at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Men’s breakfast is held once a month (call the church office for dates and times).

June’s donations for Love Chapel is mac & cheese.

Women’s Bible study is the third Tuesday each month at 1 p.m. with “Holy Envy” by Barbara Brown Taylor.

The church will assist those in our community with a hot meals June 21.

Camp Compassion Intergenerational Vacation Bible School will be June 21-23 at 6:30 p.m., ending on the 23rd with a homemade ice cream social.

Faith Lutheran Church — Worship each Sunday begins at 9 a.m. The church also livestreams worship each Sunday on Facebook at Faith Lutheran Church — Columbus Indiana. First Presbyterian Church — For Father’s Day, June 19, the church will have its annual outdoor worship service at 9:30 a.m. at the Donner Park Shelter House, 739 22nd St. The second Sunday of Parables brings us to Ten Talents or Gold Coins — Matthew 25:14-30. It also happens to be Juneteenth, so the sermon will be titled “Untangling a mess.” Livin’ by Faith will lead worship.

First United Methodist Church — On Sunday, June 19, at 10 a.m., the Rev. Howard Boles will deliver the message, “Joyful People.” The scripture will be Psalm 126. This will be Holy Humor Sunday, filled with laughter and delight. As part of the annual Father’s Day tradition, we encourage everyone, men and women alike, to wear their ugliest tie to worship.

The church encourages those attending in person to please arrive 10 minutes before the service. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrances to the sanctuary. Masks are optional. There will be no Sunday school for the month of June.

Flintwood Wesleyan Church — Sunday morning worship begins at 9 a.m. with the Amplify (contemporary) service. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. with classes for all age groups. The Well (traditional) service begins at 11 a.m. Both worship services are led by Pastor Wesley Jones. The church’s Sunday Amplify services are livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.

Sunday evening is devoted to Celebrate Recovery meetings. The meetings are designed to assist in ridding hurts, habits and hang-ups. The church has started serving meals again. At this time, there is one meal each month every second-to-last Sunday. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. with getting to know each other, singing, and a lesson, and are open to the public. At 7 p.m., there is an open share meeting that splits into a group for women and a group for men. Safe child care is available.

Wednesday activities begin with a meal served at 5:30 p.m. in the friendship center. The iKids program begins at 6:15 p.m. and youth meet downstairs in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Prayer Team meets in the prayer room downstairs in the main building at 6:15 p.m., and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. Scouts are meeting Thursdays at 7 p.m.

There will be a guest speaker on June 19 from the Foundation for Law Enforcement Chaplaincy. Beginning June 26 and for the remainder of the summer, the church will explore the book of Psalms. The title of this exploration is “Summer of Psalms.” The topic for June 26 will be “A Hymn of Praise.”

Mount Pleasant Christian Union Church — The church invites the community to visit their little 150-year-old country church for a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. The church preaches out of the King James Bible and sings out of hymn books.

Newbern United Methodist Church — The church is practicing strict COVID-19 preventative measures. Masks are required. All activities are postponed until further notice except for Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. and online Bible study each Wednesday at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Pastor Al White, the church’s transitional pastor, is leading worship and sharing messages that encourage firm foundations of faith in Jesus. Simple church — simply Jesus.

This weekend the church family will be joined by Dr. Tommy Oaks and his son, John Thomas Oaks. Dr. Oaks is the first person in the world to receive a doctorate in Story Telling, and his son is a musical prodigy. The community is invited to a mini-workshop on prayer, Saturday morning at 10 a.m., coffee and donuts will be provided. Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m., they will present their musical comedy, The Legend of Wiley Jake, the story of the two brothers Jacob and Esau told as a western tale. It’s lots of fun for the whole family! (Dress in your cowboy duds and come early for extra fun!)

Dr. Oaks and John Thomas will be leading the teaching and worship services on Sunday morning, beginning at 9 a.m.

The church has added a time for discipleship growth at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings. There’s always a coffee and donut time downstairs before the morning worship time at 10 a.m.

Petersville United Methodist Church — The Rev. Rebecca Milne will bring her message, “Just Jesus,” on Sunday, June 19, at the 9 a.m. service; her sermon will be the beginning of a new series that will continue until the last Sunday in July.

Kathy Bush will serve as worship leader, and Teresa Covert will share a message with the children. Father’s Day will be celebrated and the fathers will receive gifts from the United Methodist women’s group.

A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the worship service.

Sandy Hook United Methodist Church — Sandy Hook United Methodist Church gathers weekly for in-person and online worship. The church will offer two services on June 19 — the traditional service at 8:45 a.m. and the contemporary service at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Dazet will bring a message about “What Does Jesus Do With Evil.”

Nursery is available for children 2 and younger from 8:30 a.m. until the end of the second service. Sunday school classes are offered between services at 10 a.m.

Praise, Prayer and Pickleball will be offered Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot starting through July 6. Join us for prayer and fellowship if you are not interested in the “pickleball” part!

July 3 will be an outdoor service at 11 a.m. followed by a “pitch in picnic” and the church will provide the meat and drinks. Please remember to bring your lawn chair for service.

St. Paul Lutheran Church — Pastor Doug Bauman will present the message “Ready or Not” based of Isaiah 65:1-9 Sunday at the 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

Christian fellowship will begin at 9:10 a.m. Christian Educational classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Jeff Patterson will lead the Adult Bible Class on the topic of Holiness. The Spanish worship service will be in the fellowship room at 10:45 a.m. with Spanish Sunday school at noon.

Radio worship service is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on WYGS 91.1 FM, which also broadcasts the Lutheran Hour every Sunday at 7 p.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Early Childhood Ministry is now enrolling for the 2022-2023 school year. St. Paul offers a comprehensive, half-day kindergarten program and a 3-year-olds preschool class, extended care and STEM enrichment sessions.
