James C. Williams Sr.

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

James (Jim) C. Williams Sr, 88, of Columbus, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.

Born on December 21, 1933, Jim was the son of Jesse Virgil Williams and Ethel Morrison Williams of Ogilville. He married Alma Jean Conrad and spent the next 60 years with Alma raising their family.

Jim worked at Arvin Industries and the Golden Foundry most of his career. Upon retirement, Jim enjoyed doing odd jobs with his friend Clarence Whitis and tinkering in his garage.

Jim was an avid fisherman and a passionate hunter. He was a 50+ year member of the Bartholomew County Coon Hunters Club. You could find him every Sunday watching NASCAR and rooting for his favorite drivers. He loved watching the Lakers and Pacers and attended his first Pacers game in 2020. He especially enjoyed playing euchre with his best buddy Eli.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Williams: son, James C. Williams Jr (Michelle) of Columbus; and daughter, Crystal Read (Bill) of Trafalgar, IN; three grandchildren, Jamie C. Williams (Megan) of Columbus, IN, Mara Nichter (Ethan) of Columbus, IN, and Dawson Read of Trafalgar, IN; two great-grandchildren, Oakley Williams of Columbus, IN, and Gracelyn Nichter of Columbus, IN; one great-grandchild on the way and two sisters, Joyce Ludwig of North Vernon and Gloria “Hon” Allman of Seymour; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Geraldine Eickelberry, Bea Lewis, Leatrice Newkirk, Violet Brashears, and Neola Lord; and brothers, Don Williams and Jesse Williams.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service.
